Biden's D-Day Speech Nailed the Threat of Modern Fascism
(Daily Beast) Bidens remarks were pointed and powerfully delivered. He underscored that NATO, the successor to the Allies that achieved victory in the most costly war the world has ever known, was more united than ever. Make no mistake, he intoned, we will never bow down. But his message was not intended solely for our one World War II ally that has over the decades since become one of our principal adversaries: Russia. There were in his words messages for political adversaries at home who did not seem to understand why we fought in World War II.
U.S. adds a much-better-than-expected 272,000 jobs in May, but unemployment rate edges up to 4%
(CNBC) The U.S. economy added far more jobs than expected in May, countering fears of a slowdown in the labor market and likely reducing the Federal Reserves impetus to lower interest rates. Nonfarm payrolls expanded by 272,000 for the month, up from 165,000 in April and well ahead of the Dow Jones consensus estimate for 190,000. At the same time, the unemployment rate rose to 4%, the first time it has breached that level since January 2022. Job gains were concentrated in health care, government and leisure and hospitality, consistent with recent trends. The three sectors respectively added 68,000, 43,000 and 42,000 positions. The three sectors accounted for more than half the gains.
Republicans want Hunter Biden's trial to distract from Trump's crimes -- but, so far, it's backfiring
(Salon) What treatment of Biden's trial illustrates is the vast gulf between the two parties when it comes not just to respect for rule of law, but whether they have a basic grasp on reality. The Republican obsession with Hunter Biden speaks more about them than it does about either President Biden or the larger Democratic Party.
'Opting out': Major retailer refuses to sponsor GOP convention to nominate Trump
(Raw Story) The retail giant Kohl's will not sponsor any Republican National Convention events in its home town of Milwaukee where former President Donald Trump, a convicted felon, is expected to win his party's nomination, according to a new report. CNBC reporter Brian Schwartz broke the news Thursday that the major retailer was "opting out of sponsoring Donald Trump's Republican National Convention" later this summer, he wrote on X.
Veterans Unload On 'Draft Dodger' Trump In Scathing New Attack Ad: 'He's Not Fit'
(Huff Post) A new ad from President Joe Bidens campaign released in time for Thursdays D-Day commemoration features three U.S. veterans putting Donald Trump on blast. Hes a draft dodger, simple as that, said Army veteran Ed McCabe. I see a man who is only in this for himself, Matthew McLaughlin, who was a Navy pilot for eight years, said of Trump. Donald Trump has zero accountability in his life. I think the election is the difference between authoritarianism and democracy, said Curtis Register, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Rep. Jared Moskowitz Clowns James Comer With Totally 'Great' Biden Answer
(Huff Post) Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-Fla.) mocked House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-Ky.) as he sarcastically gave his evaluation of the GOPs impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden on Wednesday. Its going great for Comer. I mean, everything I read, its just going so well for him, Moskowitz told Fox News Chad Pergram outside the U.S. Capitol.
Jared Kushner's Latest Real Estate Deal Comes With Shocking Condition
(New Republic) Jared Kushner is apparently keenly adept at making choices that piss off everyone: His recent contract with the Serbian government to bulldoze the bombed-out ruins of the Yugoslav Ministry of Defense complex and convert it into a luxury hotel carries with it a fine-print commitment to build a memorial dedicated to all the victims of NATO aggression a direct condemnation of the United States that whitewashes the ethnic cleansing of Albanians in Kosovo, according to intelligence blog SpyTalk.

Alex Jones agrees to liquidate his assets to pay Sandy Hook families, end his ownership of Infowars
(CNN) Right-wing conspiracy theorist Alex Jones on Thursday moved to liquidate his personal assets, agreeing to demands from the families of Sandy Hook victims whom he owes more than $1.5 billion in damages over his lies about the 2012 school massacre. The seismic move paves the way for a future in which Jones no longer owns Infowars, the influential conspiracy empire he founded in the late 1990s.
